What is Copyediting?
A sentence-by-sentence review of the writing, focused on syntax and grammar. A copyedit does not look at the big picture—no structure, plot, style, or pacing is reviewed. A copyedit is appropriate for a confident writer who needs help with grammar and syntax. An editor will look for these things in a copyedit:
grammar numbers formatting
spelling consistency flow
hyphenation punctuation capitalization
syntax readability awkward phrasing
All edits are made in Microsoft Word’s Track Changes. Changes or corrections will be pointed out using the Comments mode in Microsoft Word. You’ll be able to see the original text, the suggested changes, and the reasons for the changes, which will help you improve your writing going forward. All changes can be accepted or rejected using Track Changes. Additionally, a style guide of the project will be created for the author.
Copyediting packages start at $.02/word for most manuscripts and for online materials such as blog posts and websites. Prices for academic works that contain footnotes vary and can be estimated after a manuscript review.
